Are You Already In Australia?
Medical Examination (DIAC Form 26)
Your medical examination must be conducted by a doctor who has been appointed as a Commonwealth Medical Officer (CMO) by Health Services Australia (HSA) and approved to do the medical examinations on behalf of DIAC. Any dependents travelling to Australia with you are included on your visa application and must also undergo a medical examination.
You should take to the medical examination:
- The Application for a Medical Examination (Form 26), with a passport sized photograph. A separate medical application and fee applies for each person included on your visa application.
- Complete questions 1 to 18 of the "Applicant’s Declaration" section and provide the related medical reports for any existing medical condition you may have.
- Cash payment of the fee, per person. Note: Cheques and/or credit cards are not accepted.

Note:
- Remember you will need to book your medical appointment well in advance as there is a waiting period.
- The processing time for medical results will take an average of 10 to 15 working days.
- Delays may be experienced where further investigation is required, so respond quickly to any requests for additional information, further testing, or specialist reports to limit delays in the processing time.
X-Ray Examination (DIAC Form 160)
All persons included in your visa application who are aged 16 years or over, must have an X-ray examination. You must take with you:
- an Application for an X-ray Examination (Form 160), complete (but do NOT sign) the top section of the form, and attach a passport sized photograph and
- the fee per person, which you must pay in cash. Cheques and/or credit cards are not accepted.
The X-ray examination generally takes about 15 minutes and is also conducted by Health Services Australia.
Important Notice for Women
If you are pregnant or think that you may be, you must tell the person taking the X-ray.
Are You Residing Outside of Australia?
For entry into Australia, medical examinations undertaken overseas are generally only acceptable if conducted by panel doctors and radiologists who are approved by the Australian Government. You will be provided with a list of those doctors and radiologists by SESIH.
You will be sent information and the relevant forms (Form 26 and Form 160) by SESIH. The panel doctor and radiologist must complete the forms and seal the results/reports in the envelopes provided. They should not return your medical reports to you. The envelopes must be forwarded directly to:
