Applying for Professional Registration
To be eligible for employment as a nurse or midwife within the State of New South Wales, you must be registered with the Nurses and Midwives Board New South Wales (NMB). An offer of employment cannot be made until this has occurred.
The following information outlines the steps required to become registered as a nurse or midwife in New South Wales.
Category 1: If you qualified as a nurse or midwife, in a country that the NMB considers appropriate for automatic recognition, you are eligible for immediate registration. Upon registration you may explore employment opportunities subject to any work limitations included in your Australian Visa.
Category 2: If you have an appropriate work visa but have qualified in a country that the NMB does not automatically recognise for the purpose of registration, you may be required to undertake an approved assessment program for overseas qualified nurses and midwives.
Pre-Registration Assessment Programs are conducted by The College of Nursing.
